Trip to Ferrymead

As you know, the New Entrant Syndicate visited Ferrymead as part of our Respect for the Past unit looking at toys. We had so much fun playing with lots of toys from the olden days like fishing games, spinning toys, felt characters and tin toys. The children made some simple but clever spinning toys. They played with all kinds of puppets, shadow puppets, finger puppets and hand puppets and we saw many funny puppet shows. The children also got to play and learn some simple outdoor games and activities which you can see in the photos below. After the children changed out of their olden day uniforms they got to have a ride in the tram which was a fun ride. It was a busy, interesting and fun day and I'm sure the children were all very tired when they got home!

Book Week in the New Entrant Syndicate

We have had a fantastic book week! A great way to celebrate the joy and rewards of reading! The children have enjoyed lots of super fun activities and they loved having several different teachers and adults read to them. We kicked off the week with a visit from Adrian Kirk with a "Reading Rocks" show. This encouraged the children to read for fun, to find information and to learn how to do new things. Adrian was very funny and inspiring with his presentation and he talked to the children about using their imagination. On Tuesday afternoon, we had several grandparents bring in one of their favourite books to read with the children. Interesting how some books will always be popular with the children no matter how old they get.

We had a fantastic turnout for Bedtime Stories and this was thoroughly enjoyed by children and adults. Well done to all the adults who wore their pyjamas too! The atmosphere was snugly, warm and special for our Bedtime Stories with some amazing sound effects too. The children were all cuddled up in sleeping bags and blankets so it was amazing that they stayed awake for all 4 stories, hope they slept well when they got home!

The highlight of the week was the Book Character Dress Up day and there were certainly some very interesting characters at school. We had the Gingerbread Man, Buzz Lightyear, Ariel the Mermaid, Pirate Pete, the Tooth Fairy, Spiderman, Batman, Snow White and even Franklin the Turtle. Thanks to all the parents for helping to make this such a great day! The best dressed characters were chosen in each syndicate and prizes will be given to these children at whole school assembly on Monday. The Book Character parade was followed by pavement art where the children drew their favourite characters on the concrete. Many of these can still be seen around the school, we thought the New Entrant syndicate created some fantastic artwork of their favourite characters! On the last day of Book Week we had the Lower Middle syndicate come down to read to our New Entrants, this is always enjoyed by the children as they have the opportunity to share their reading knowledge and books with older peers.
Alongside all of this there was the book fair and the children were very excited about seeing and reading new books. Thank you to all the parents who got involved with this.Next week may seem quiet in comparison but we will continue to build on the inspriation for reading that Book Week has created. Keep up the reading at home, we are seeing some great reading at school!

Our second blog!

Wow a very exciting term in the New Entrant Syndicate so far.....
We have our last session of Turbo Touch this week, we have really enjoyed learning our new skills with Tristain.

We went for a visit to our local supermarket (Countdown-Belfast) to look at where our food comes from and how it is stored. We met the Baker, Butcher and Forklift Driver who were very friendly and gave us lots of information.
We were allowed in the freezer, but we had to pretend to be penguins!

We are off to Burger King next week, photos to follow!
